Tammy: Congratulations. That is great news!!!

Glenn: Yes, we do have to meet up soon, not just for worms, coffee is running out soon and I do have a bunch of co-workers who might want to order some coffee as well. I will PM you about it next week.

Al: Sometimes "strange" can be a positive thing. Congratulations on your full-time job and what a nice discovery of your little escape.

So Sunday @ 10:00am, Lake Murray? Is that what is decided?

If my houseguests leave early enough on Sunday, I'll see if I can pop down.

Sunny - BABIES!

I wanted to show you guys this...

The other day my hubby and I were in the laundry room, and I saw a bird out the window. I thought maybe it was some sort of quail, but wasn't sure; I've never seen anything like this on our property before. After bird #1 comes bird #2, closely followed by a whole bunch of babies! I ran for my camera while they walked all along the side of our house, and through our pool area. The babies were terrific fliers.

I caught some photos out of our bedroom window... I had to zoom a lot, so the quality isn't great. What are they?

WOW Dana!! Too cool! Yes, like birdmaniac said, they are Calif. Quail. I haven't seen a whole covey in a long time. I used to see them all the time when I was younger.

In fact that reminds me of my siblings being at the school bus stop in Fallbrook, where I grew up, and a family of quail were running across the street. Mama and most of the babies were able to jump the curb and scurry off into the bushes. One baby couldn't jump the curb. Mama and its sibling sat there under the juniper calling for the last baby, and waiting for the baby, but it couldn't jump high enough to clear the curb. My sister ran over and lifted the baby over the curb, and it rejoined its family and they all scurried off. TOO CUTE!!

Beautiful!!! California Quail found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Quail That is typically what hunters hunt out here in California when they say they've "eaten quail" however you do have to have a hunting license and it's illegal to take them out of the wild, (as in for pets). They are beautiful and there are a ton of them here where I live.

I always saw them growing up and they are what made me want to get quail.

Hi Everyone,

So it looks like I will run out of MM chick starter before next Sunday. Does anyone near Fallbrook have some to.spare? I'm not exactly sure how much I'd need for 7 5-week olds plus 2 hens who keep stealing.

If I can't find any, can the chicks eat some layer as long as it's only a week?

Thanks!

I feed my quail this stuff:

It's called Purina Gamebird Startena, it has 30% protein and is good for them babies to adults, I just offer oyster shell to the layers so they can get it if they want it. I've tried other stuff such as turkey starter and Mazuri's gamebird feed, but they really like this stuff the best and give me lots of eggs on it.

I have yet to find an organic gamebird feed anywhere.

Speaking of eggs, I have lots of extra's (quail and chicken) if anyone wants to purchase some!
