San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I'm so glad the ducks were rescued!

Elara - MM left five bags off of our last North County order (plus another bag was pretty shredded), so we may be getting another delivery sooner than we think. If not, I have extra soy-free feed here that I can give you (especially if you need it in a hurry!)

Like you, I was losing A LOT of feed to mice, rats and squirrels. Someone told me to add cayenne pepper to the feed to make it unpalatable to those beasts, but still delicious to the chickens. (I asked about the cayenne changing the taste of the eggs, and was told it wouldn't.) I bought myself a few 1 pound bags of organic cayenne off of Amazon, and I've been adding it in. I'm not doing any sort of scientific measurements, but it sure seems like I'm not filling feeders as fast as I was previously... it's worth a try! Cayenne has some good health benefits for the birds, too.
This sounds very interesting and I am going to try it soon.

Dana -- I'll definitely try the cayenne, and hope that the Wyandottes don't turn as red as the Reds. Wait - I have olive eggers, too. Does that mean I'll have spicy pepper-stuffed olives?

Something like this ?

Only $50? Pressboard here is $10 a sheet....? Maybe just from the pics, but it looks like it has more wood than just a few sheets.

These are 6'x4'x5' tall takes 3 1/2 sheets of OSB for $35 6 or 7- 2"x2" and 1 2"x3" I found a discount store that had good hinges for cheap and bought a bunch. I also got a bunch of exterior paint for free so I put 2 or 3 coats of that then a coat of the final color. OSB will last for ever if you keep it painted.I also not that long ago got all this for $100

Then I sold the carriers for $125 so all the wire was free.

And free is always good.

Can someone please tell me when the next meet up, show or swap is?

How are the rescued pekin ducks doing?

I've got one and she's doing alright. Still hobbling a bit. I've been giving her extra Niacin and keeping her low key. Hoping she just needs better nutrition and some R & R. DonaldFan is getting the other two. Thanks for asking! I've never had a duck before but I'm in love. One of these days...I need to learn to be patient in all things.
