San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

If Cari doesn't have any spare BW Ams, I am growing out four chicks right now. It's still too soon to tell sex (well, for me anyway) or if they're wheaten or blue wheaten.

I've got my fingers crossed that Glenn & Co. are all okay... I hate this time of year for the fire danger.

Thank you so much for your offer, I will keep it in mind.
The BW AMER girls are just about ready to lay so I really need a big boy that is ready for some summer lovin'.

I just checked the Cal Fire site and hope everyone is still ok.

1650 acres so far...scary.

I have a lady looking for 4 chickies to round out her flock,
2 Americanas and 2 Aracanas.
Please contact me if you have some chicks your willing to sell and how much you want for them.

Tx for your help!
Jules

I hope everyone is keeping there fluffy butts cool!

You spelled it "Americanas" does that mean she really wants EE's?

And true rumpless Araucanas are VERY hard to find, most likely you'll either have to find a breeder or order eggs online and hatch them yourself.

Hi Cari,
I hope your move is going well, I wish I could help but I can't even keep up with my own projects. Eather I'm getting old or there are not enough hours in a day!

I'm looking for a Blue Wheaton Americana Rooster, if you have a spare I can purchase. We have some beautiful girls that would love to have big boy around.
Tx!
Jules

I do have a purebred Blue Wheaten Ameraucana cockerel I could sell you, let me know when you would like to come get him.

Well aren't you sweet and so considerate.
I'll need to know how much you want for the rooster before I commit to purchasing a him.

I had my first casualty of the heat...my lovely LF black Naked Neck pullet. She had just started to lay. I was really surprised....I checked on the birds and they all seemed to be dealing with the heat alright. An hour later I looked out my kitchen window and saw her feet up. :(

I'm bummed for sure. I never expected to lose one to the heat. I've stayed home as much as possible in order to refresh waters and wet down the ground. I don't know what else I could have done. Gosh, one of my "keepers" too.

If you have a chest freezer you could freeze buckets of water overnight and put them out In the day when the girls and boys are getting hot.

Allison, I'm do sorry about your girl. I worry about the heat too, especially when the girls are laying, sitting in a virtual oven for an hour or more. I set up a fan for the coop today. Outside, they have a mister, a wading pool and frozen watermelon a couple times a day. I hope it's enough.

I hope you don't lose anymore.
