San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I agree, I just love looking at him. It was even overcast that day, if it was sunny you would see how much color and how shiny he is 10x more than this! I wasn't able to capture the deep chestnut red inside the black stripe on the chicks' backs/heads either. It's so pretty.

Hey everyone, I ran out of calendars at the meet-up, I feel so bad, I should have grabbed more! Anywho, I had someone ask me if I had anymore (sorry I don't remember who it was) but I was all out....

But I found one!!! So if anyone wants a calendar that didn't get one please let me know!

When you get a chance check out my NN's on the NN thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=301500&p=94 #934

I'm just as crazy about the d'Uccles I got from Lynne!!! I'm working on a pen just outside the second pop door of my coop into the run. Giving them their own little place. Not sure about putting them in with the LF.....they are so tiny!!
My little Mille Fleur is sooooooooo sweet! She perches on my hand like a parrot. I named her "Jolie" (means pretty) and the mottled one "Mignonne" (means cute, dainty). DD wants to name the hen "Cinderella".....hahaha! not my first pic but since I sold her BR hen I guess I better let her have this one. Each time I see the cockerel I think of Billy Idol! hahaha! Love Billy Idol too....guess it'll be "Billy" for the cockerel.

I love the chicken names! We've given some of ours not-so-nice names... the Sultan is Helen (as in Keller), one of the Polish is Phyllis (as in Diller) and the other Polish is Billie (after Billy Idol). My hubby named one of the Barred Rocks Marsala, and our used-to-be-featherless-and-ugly Columbian Wyandotte roo's name is Feathers. Nice, eh?

Tigerlily, is the hen with your Jungle Fowl also a Jungle Fowl? My little Easter Egger is colored just like her!

This is not a terribly current picture of her; I need to go take some new shots. She lays the prettiest green eggs for me!

CrazyHuhn - is there a good number or email to contact you for mealworms? I don't remember where in the County you are...

I hope they'll be another meet-up in the future. I had a great time, and learned so much!

Wow what a pretty girl! Yes the hens in the pic are red jungle fowl. All RJF hens are "wild color" for camouflage in the wild and only the roos get the pretty colors red/green/blue/purple. EEs can be crosses that lay green or blue eggs right? I don't know much about those lol, maybe she is crossed with RJF! They lay a light brown egg, so a cross with a blue egg breed would make green (olive) I think.... ??
I see a little difference but gosh she sure looks jungly to me with that gamey face. How cute!

I know some game breeds like OE that are BBR also have wild colored hens.
