San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Hey, anyone want a Black Copper Marans Roo? He's from a super dark egg laying line of birds. I also have a "bantam" Marans Roo, he's more like a small Black Copper Marans, but if anyone wants to start a line of bantams, or has them, he might be just the thing. None of my Roos have bad manners, gentle and easy to handle. I'm going to be in the Ramona/Julian area on Feb 2nd, if anyone wants them.

Still selling rabbits, have a trio of Jersey Woolies with legs and G. Champ wins, 2 females, 1 male - you get all three for $90.

Looking for a small breed sheep/lamb for a companion for my sheep. Also looking for a sheared and someone who knows how to trim hooves to show me how to do it properly. Will pay you for your time and can transport my ewe to you.

Thanks, everyone! Oh, and here's this, just for fun:

you have no idea how much constrain I am showing not spiraling this way way way down below the gutter

OK fellow RSVPers of the meet-up. Put your feelers out for me - I need 24 - 36 super fresh RIR and 24-36 super fresh barred rock hatching eggs at the end of May. The lucky suppliers will not only be paid a reasonable price but will get to know that their eggs will travel 7500 miles in my get-the-flock-out-of-here adventure and potentially change the egg production patterns on a tropical island.

I do my own Goats feet The feed store in Santee sells the trimmers. But If you want to save some Bucks the small pruners from the garden shop work perfectly. The kind that look like scissors on steriods. I cant kneel so I had my goats hop up on one of their play structures and had my son hold them.

from the feed store

from home depot eight inch bypass trimmer.

They just have to be sharp and easy to handle. You use the pointed tips to pick dirt out.

Hey Ozexpat.... I read your Get the flock out of here thread front to back last night.... Awesome job you are doing.

Just a thought on the incubation stuff. You should grab up a few of those game fowl hens and put them into service and hatch duty. If you can keep them contained each game hen should be able to hatch out four to five large fowl eggs. Once you get your base flock going and hens that are laying. Course you have some Cochins and Silkeys in the mix they are excellent broodies.

Thanks Deb. Glad you enjoyed it. I hope you got some sleep.

I will coop the recent batch of chicks from the local game fowl mixes I have as soon as they finish feathering out. The mamas have a bamboo and nipa coop for nights but no fence. I cant jail them now but I will start with their offspring. Placing eggs under them is a great low tech way of increasing my flock when just Bernie the gardener is there running the show.

Mrs Oz just woke up and is uploading all the pics on the camera - there are about 600. she does not have the time to sit around and edit but has 200 to go - its time to get the kids ready for preschool. I will upload the pics of the "kano" chicks and the finished coop as soon as they come across on drop box.

I just had our first 4 h chicken meeting today and I invited them to come to the chicken gathering.Hope some make it out to poway.
can hardly wait.
Oh, that would be so much fun if some 4h kids came! I'm really excited about this meet-up. I'm inviting a friend who lives in Poway and has not yet fully realized that she NEEDS some chickens. So perhaps some of you can help me indoctrinate her :)

I will also bring a raffle prize, some lemonade from my best tree, and maybe some Brabanter chicks, a handsome blue Silkie cockerel, and any chicken that gets on my nerves between now and then....

I can't make the 9th =( I actually am having a chicken party too!! I just got in 33 babies today and planned a party to share in the maximum cuteness. I got two assortments so maybe you guys can help me identify them! lol
