San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Deb, where do you get rice hulls? I'd love to get some.
I got mine at Double S feed in Blossom Valley.... El Cajon. But the first time I got them was at East County feed in Santee. Call your feed stores and find out if they carry them.... if they dont then ask them if they can get them. I believe the brand is Mallard Creek. The bale is six cubic feet.

I love them because they dont compact like shavings do. Yet they still compost. The chickens love them.... I left a partially open bale inside the coop on Thursday and they took it upon themselves to "srpead the love" around.... I had only put them in the nesting area by today the whole bottom of the coop has rice hulls.

i am bringing an extension chord to plug in some bators - i can run them from an inverter in my car if there is an issue.

I am bringing a home made wine box bator, a hovabator genesis 1588 original and a modified Farm innovators styro. I will get up early and try to put together a hatcher I am going to give to SoCal Dorkings..... if I have time.

i also have a european encyclopedia of chickens to donate to a raffle.
