San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Does anyone have baby chicks that hatched this week or will hatch next week. I would love to buy local baby chicks for pet chickens. We are excited to start and have our brooder ready.
(((text)))) Aaron @619-2015257 you can ask(( if all the ones hatching next week have been taken. Tell him I sent ya good luck.

I would love to hear more about them and where you are at. Thanks so much. We are a family of 6 and are so excited to start our backyard flock. We will treat them as beloved additions to our family.

I will bring chicken or turkey enchiladas.

I will have chicks from any shipped eggs that dont arrive in time to get into my golf bag!

I was having a discussion today and mentioned that you don't see the dark Maran eggs in stores. She insisted that all sorts of stores sell them. Now, I will freely admit that I don't pay a lot of attention to egg sales, but I certainly don't recall seeing the dark brown eggs for sale in a store, of course I know you can get brown eggs, just not that dark. Opinions?

I've never seen maran dark colored eggs in any markets, just the brown eggs. I read somewhere that we will start to see blue eggs in stores in the near future.

I've never seen Marans eggs in a real store unless they were some of my own. :) I don't think you will either, since you can't "turn and burn" them like you can Leghorns or some of the other prolific layers.
