Sorry to hear about your dad..... Glad hes on the mend finally.... I so understand your lack of time..... Grandma fell and broke her hip just about this time last year.... I became caregiver then. Shes in better health than me but i cant leave her alone more than an hour or two.I'm so sorry! Predator loss is always hard![]()
I've not had much time unfortunately to enjoy my chickens for over a month now. Dad had surgery and many complications , thankful he is doing better. I've become his primary caregiver and its been really hard. The animals are all being fed and watered, but nothing else . My turkeys are growing like weeds, and I have some beautiful polish, Swedish flower, cochins and penciled rocks that I'm looking forward to breeding come spring. I'm getting zero eggs at the moment. How is everyone else doing?
Look on Amazon.... they are pretty pricy starting at around eighty bucks..... Do you think youd save eighty bucks in two months?Anyone have experience with the Eco Glow heat lamps? I was doing the math of how much $ I would save in electricity vs a traditional lamp. It would almost pay for itself after 2 months of use. Best place or price to find one at?
I am going to get some chicks soon, after loosing my whole flock this summer to weasels we have beefed up the coop and I am ready for chickens again. I really miss going to gather eggs and watch the ladies fight over garden scraps.
I figure depending on what tiered rate I am at with SDG&E it costs me from 30-60 a month to have a standard feed store lamp. When I have a heat lamp going my electric bill jumps about $40.Look on Amazon.... they are pretty pricy starting at around eighty bucks..... Do you think youd save eighty bucks in two months?
I like the idea of the safety factor and the adjustable height....

Quote: Wow..... Thats amazing... So what does it cost you to run a 100 Watt light bulb? IN the summer time I run a swamp cooler 24/7 and they are about the same as a 100 watt light bulb to run.
My grandpa used Kerosine lamps to heat his brooders. To brood up a couple of hundred at a time. Dad said Grandpa built his brooders with corrugated tin on the bottom. Then he would fill them with about two inches of Blow Sand.... they lived in the desert. Then under the tin he would put a kerosine lamp with a deflector for the fumes..... The heat from the lamp would heat up the tin and dad said the little "peechuckers would streeeetch out on the sand for their naps. they knew it was warm enough then.
This is a memroy from dad.... they could have been using a standard Kerosine brooder too. I have seen pix of them online.

I've been worried about you. How are things in the Philippines? We lived there when I was 18 & my Dad was stationed at Clark AFB. But the volcano got the base years agoHope the Typoon isn't anywhere near your family.
