San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

Sunny, yes we are all at different stages in the length of time that we have been growing with our chicks. I have tons of fencing etc since I am a gardener also and most of my stuff is meant to be portable. A good investment before chicken math takes over is a portable carrier make of wire. You can shop on-line to see all the products available and then check out a local place when you have time. No matter how many years this craze has kept you building everyone is in danger of getting carried away.

As long as they have all their feathers they will be fine. I moved my 14 three week olds out to the grow out coop and low and behold it got down to the low thirties every night that week. They were all perfectly fine. Yours will be too.

Hi Everyone, I am wanting to place an order with IDEAL Poultry. I do not have enough birds for a safe delivery and I know they will place Packing Peanuts that I do not care for nor have the room for. I also heard that birds are having a rough ride with the weather so there really needs to be more chicks in there.

I am looking to replace some birds that ended up being roos and a few other birds.

I will decide tomorrow to order or not. If I can get 1 person to add a few birds, I will order otherwise I will wait. These birds will be delivered on Friday and I can bring them to the meet up on the 22nd.

PM me with interest.

Thanks,

Nancy

Okay friends, be proud of me!! I only have two chickens left in the house!! I put my teenagers out tonight for their first night outdoors. Oh my, did they put up a fuss, but I think it was just in the nick of time. I noticed some pecking marks on one of them, and it had to be due to their cramped conditions. I'm sure in a couple days they will be just fine, and happy with their quarters.

Hey, I wanted to post these pics, I got 2 new birds last night- some BBR OEGB pullets, pretty, pretty girls! Fortunately, they don't need to me kept indoors. They slept in my garden shed last night, but tonight are in their new Tres Chic Chambre aka, my new chicken coop. LOL.

Sorry Nancy, I'm at my self imposed limit right now. Unless I fill up my bathtub with chickens again, which would probably get me divorced.

Looking forward to Saturday....my daughter has come down with the flu, so cross your fingers that it has run its course by the weekend!

I am over my limit Nancy, plus I might get a few little ones soon, I am running out of room.

Where are you getting the chicks from? and what are you getting?

Hi Al, So your Silkie is broody?

HA! Hard to imagine that the last meet up I had 0 chickens and now I do not even want to say. LOL! I am a few over my city limits. Oh well!

Thinking about Ideal Poultry. I was looking into replacing the sex link that turned out to be a ROO. Yeah, a SEXLINK. I was pretty ticked. And the Production Red is a roo too. Cari wants some red broilers.

I have enough roos from the hatch I did for NY's so I will have to unload those and I want to go to the Stockton Show and I may buy some there. Ugh......

Nancy

They do have similar coloring don't they? But they are definitely less fluffy.

Finally, here are pics of my new coop. The LF occupy the two left sections, the bantams have the right section all to themselves.

I'm going to look and see what paint I have in the garage, and pretty it up a bit.

I need to add some roosts, and do a couple of other things, but for the most part, its done! When my LF pullets move into the big coop in spring, my little roos will get that section. If they are fighting, then I'll put the divider in, and separate them.
