I would be interested in attending - if only just to learn how to humanely "take care" of a chicken should the need arise. I too am happy to pay for the instruction.

Great! So that's two families... anyone else?

Oh and I wouldn't ask anyone to pay at all, be prepared to pluck and I'll be happy for the help!

It was a field day for the ramona fair.
It is a practice run .Was a perfect oppertunity to learn where he needs to work on his showmanship.

there was another serama there too.Surprised to see him.

Congrats to Jared!! That is terrific! What show did he take her to?

All, Thanks for the advice. I have never had a rooster before and am not sure what is normal behavior or not. It definitely wasn't my intent to pass along a problem animal.

We weren't exactly sure what had happened -- my husband found the silkie cowering in the corner of the coop a few days ago after work (I was on travel all week). Her leg appeared to be broken and her neck was floppy. My husband decided to put her down rather than allow her to suffer. After observing the other silkies, who were acting terrified and cowering from the rooster, he figured Geronimo had been to blame. He removed him from the coop and let him free range until I got home.

My polish chicks and silkies have been raised together in the same coop since about a day old, so I really didn't expect anything like this. They all free range together and I've never seen any aggresive behavior. I let all the birds out today (except the silkies) to free range and observe his behavior, and there were no issues at all. Regardless, we decided not to take a chance with Geronimo and he just got re-homed (I'm pretty sure to a stew pot)

Too bad all roosters can't be as well behaved as Chef Glenn's.......I have one rooster left, a lavender silkie. Pretty sure I won't have much trouble with him.

Cari, I think it would be great to learn how to properly process a chicken, whether I ever intend to raise meaties or not. Please count me in for your class. After reading the arsenic article, I'm pretty appalled.

Just my two cents, but...he's over the line... it's good of you to be candid about this
situation, some would pass him along and it could happen again, can't blame you for
wanting to rehome him.

Count me in, too... that is something I know absolutely zilch about.

Congratulations to Jacob!

Do you all wanna do a week day or next Saturday? That would be the um... 25th?

Maybe we can all bring a small dish and potluck if you guys want. It normally takes me about 3 hours to do 5 roosters with set-up and clean up. (Which I know is a REALLY long time I go slow and like to be thorough). I think we are only going to do three though this time around.
