San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

That is so weird because you are way more computer inclined than I am. They do monitor it and every time you post, the moderator has to approve it but once you are in, you can have the post sent straight to your email which is what I have done.

There are lots of helpful folks out there. I put a post about needing egg cartons and I have been swimming in them.

I just put a post about needing newspaper for my quails.

Last time I responded to a post where they wanted to unload canning jars. I thought it was going to be a case or 2. Well, the lady was older and wanted to give up canning so when I got to her house I just about died. I came home and threw the boxes away and put them in the dishwasher and ended up w/ 5 very large plastic totes full of them.

This on top of what I had already. I may return the offer and freecycle some back. I honestly doubt I could can that much.

Sadly, I planted white peaches and nectarines. These are my fav's but they do not can well because they are low in acidity. I usually buy Yellow Peaches to make jam. I just finished using up the ones I made last year so I will need a new batch.

That's AWESOME!!! I tried the freecycle thing but couldn't figure out how it worked and they wanted me to sign up and do all this weird stuff just to look at the listings, then after I was done with that I couldn't even find the listings to look at them.

I've had plum jam and it is DELISH. Never had nectarine jam/jelly before either but I would guess it should be good.

One of my fav's is Fig Jam. I am usually too busy stuffing my face w/ fresh figs that I somehow forget to can them.

I made plum jam under direction from a friend last summer, it was DELICIOUS!!! I have a bunch of plums this year from my tree, I might try to go solo and makes some on my own... I have a boatload of apricots too... perhaps I should try those too?

YUM!

Yours is nice and thick. One time I made it a bit runny and I use it on top of my pancakes. It is so GOOD.

One summer many years ago, I remember making tomato "jam" with my Dad. I don't recall the type of tomato but it was soooo good. The only pain was that you had to core the tomato very carefully so as not to have any seeds.
