My white Am that are 28 weeks just started laying.

and they are blue sweet !

I find that the eggs color of Ams is sometimes viewed differently by the natural or artificial lighting and also person have different perceptions of colors. For example some one may say the girl in the navy dress and another will see that same dress as black. I have noticed some folks can not tell the differences in different shades when they have subtle changes especially when the background color changes.
dfdesigns love that black pullet ! And # 3 eggs sure looks bluer to me than #4 in that picture anyway !

Ameraucanas are a work in progress and egg color, is only one aspect. As it is not the aspect that wins shows, it seems that egg color gets less attention by some show breeders. Breeders who breed mainly for egg color are breeding birds with other issues such as low productivity. It seems to be very difficult at this stage to have everything which is not surprising.

I have hatched a ton of ameraucana eggs this year. I only got really blue eggs from a handful of breeders which shocked me. The rest were shades of green from turquoise to really green. I think a lot Ameraucanas lay an egg that is not true blue, and new owners are dissapointed when their eggs are not robin blue.

My Lav has only laid 9 eggs. 9 tiny eggs but they are blue. Her sister from the same breeding and hatch lays a very green egg, much to the dissapointment of her owner. I guess it is like hair and skin color in humans. 2 parents can produce kids with very different skin and hair tones.

The group of eggs that Dana's girl hatched from were for the most part a pretty nice color ( not green green). The breeder was breeding for both type and egg color. I think it is tough.

Please don't misunderstand - I am in no way disappointed with a green egg! At this point, it's really just fun trying to figure out who goes with which egg...

#5 looks like my cuckoo Marans eggs. FBC should be quite a bit darker, especially when they first start laying. I think the cuckoo is a prettier brown.

I'm not getting any eggs right now really. I have one AM that is laying every couple days but that's it.

We're having a really hard molt AND the weather has been really funky.

I only have 2 layers and it seems my EE has quit for the season. My Delaware is still going strong though. She'll lay for 3 or 4 days then take a day off.

I've got 12 layers now, I think... I've been steadily getting 6 or 7 eggs a day. A bunch of my established ladies have been molting, too, and have been slacking a bit. We had my parents over here for bacon & eggs this morning, and those eggs are just the best!

If is is split Lavender then it is more understandable that the egg color is not great. I can't honestly remember at his point if it was split or not.
