They (and your daughter) look very happy!!!
Where did everyone go? Still trying to get used to the new BYC?
Hey Cari.... some time back did you buy some Welsummer chicks from the feed store in Blossom valley? Or am I thinking of someone else.
I just placed an order for some should be here the first week or two in February. 5 males and 20 females.... Woo hoo. About that time I should be ordering up sumatra eggs....
I am getting sooo excited about having chickens again. Going to set the brooder up in my bedroom at my house it stays nice and evenly warm in there this time of year during the day.

Yay congrats for your new additions! Are you ordering them from a hatchery? Do you have your pens built already!??! I thought you were still working on the Guinea cages? How is Mr. Piedy anyways?
I did indeed buy some Welsummers, but they were for a friend, and not from the Blossom Valley one, so it may be someone else.![]()
Hey folks,
Thought I would share a picture of our fledgling Lavender flock. These little gals and guys came to us via Cindy. We are excited to see them grow and develop.
Per Cindy’s advice we have them marked by egg color, and by parent flock.
I would like to thank Cari for her help as our surrogate hatching mommy. Our Vino-bator ran into a few snags.
We also receive our other line of Ko’s. There does seem to be some differences and nuances to each of the lines. The first pair seem to be less skittish and more confident. We’ll see if they settle down as they are handled more…especially, by our kiddos
The BB red cock
The trio
The hens.....

They are coming from Redwing Hatchery in Lancaster but I am buying them at the feed store. Redwing doesnt sell to the public. I have seen Welsummers at Double S feed before and the chicks were robust and big and very active.
Guinea cages are done for now but when are you ever actually done..... I am going to separate out Mr Piedy with Miss Peggy. They are both looking a little ragged and hang with each other. My other birds are thundering MONSTERS they keep growing and growing.... I think Peeps may have sold me some Jumbo crosses.....I am also looking for one more female guinea to balance out the flock.![]()

Perchie; I don't own any guineas, but I am getting fonder and fonder of them. I visit Cara often at the ranch where her horses are, and there is a flock of maybe 12 or so, maybe more.. and I just love their sounds and their personalities. If I ever have the opportunity to have a bigger piece of property, I would love to have some. I think they are so cool!
