I absolutely love their color All the ones I have seen in pictures were handsome and the hens had that brownish tint that was almost purple. And to top it off they lay those pretty eggs. I cant wait. I am going up to the house today to bring a load of hay up. Then clear a spot in my bedroom for a brooder. They wont be coming till february so I have some time. I also need to add one more dog kennel partition to the front of the coop. I have the panels I just have to bolt them up.

I have wellies and I so enjoy them.big fluffy and sweet.i can approch them and they stick around to let me touch them.very docile too.you will really like them.

here is a picture after we found the nest. The hens thought it would be fun to play hide the eggs for a few days.
actually found 29 eggs in the nest.
the kids built a fort and the chickens thought it was a great place to lay.

Have they been sitting on those eggs? Do you need to expand your pen?

What a fun find.... last time I found a bunch like that they were hidden in plain sight under a rosemary bush. They smelled good.... LOL. Gosh I hope I get eggs like that I am just getting Hatchery chicks. I couldn't afford to buy from Whitmore which is where I wanted to get them from.

I was thinking two to three weeks. I ordered sexed chicks so that my twenty should be 5 males and 15 females. I want to whittle it down to two roos but wont do that till the roos are completely mature. According to Whitmore he suggests waiting to cull roos are at least a year old because they take a while to mature. By culling I mean removing the birds you don't want to breed in a breeding program. By what ever means.... I would rehome if I can or just put the extras in the free range flock. I also have unlimited space.

I bought hatchery chicks from Ideal two years ago. Since it was straight run, there were two many males, gave two away, one died egg bound and the one that remains has a swell personality. Her first eggs were dark about a 6 or 7 on the scale. Actually they both laid nice large brown eggs until the larger one died. The remaining hen has not restarted since molt and short days but she is a nice girl. Remind me never to order straight run.

Hey Renee, do you think that you could spare a 2or 3 eggs about the 25th. I could bring some White Ams ??????

For those of you looking for work this may be of interest.

A colleague of mine needs child care for a small baby (about 3 months old I think). They are near Bonita and need someone who has their own transportation, from 8.00am to 4.00pm four days per week in house and who has some references.
Just thought I would put it out there.
