San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

It was a beautiful day yesterday but it is getting a little windy now. Cloudy and the sun is trying to peak out. I am sitting on the patio listening to the boys sing and the neighbor's pigeon flying over head and also listening to the birds chatter. Music to my ears.

I finally brought my turkey's from the old house to the new and they seem to be adjusting well. The chickens forgot about them and one of my AM hens went up to the turkey and went WHOA and ran back in the coop. So funny. I wish I had a shot of that but it was barely 6 in the morning.

All of a sudden the ladies are pumping the eggs out. I am a bit surprised because it is COLD and I do not use lights at all. Don't really know how many I have at this point. I guess I should go and count but I am afraid I may scare myself. Been getting 36 +/- a day. As of yesterday, another AM hen wants to be a mom. She has been pretty determined. Not sure what I am going to do yet. Not really wanting another batch of barnyard specials. I may just buy some eggs to let her sit on them.

Have a GREAT day everyone!

Nancy

Thanks Nancy! Glad you are popping back in more often, I love your stories!!!

Glad you got your Turkeys moved... How big are they now? They are Midget Whites rights? I believe that breed is supposed to be 14 pounds max, and the ones from a hatchery are slightly bigger... maybe 20 pounds...

Here I came to post pics of what I've built so far and I find Renee's posts about being an inspiration to her.

Well, here is what I've got done so far.

It's my coop in a coop.

I got the coop off of CL and added the window in front and put the pop door in back. I hope to get it all enclosed by the end of this weekend. My husband doesn't like the tin, but I wanted something other than brown T-111 to look at. Have to say, I love Simpson ties! This thing isn't going anywhere. It's mostly screwed and bolted together.

REALLY NICE!!! I'm trying to get my run enclosed this weekend, too - let's wish each other luck!

I have 2 that are Midget Whites and both are males. No clue as to how much they weigh but I am guessing way more than 14 pounds. A few of the FR's that you took care of last time were 9.5 pounds dressed.

I know this because I gave them to my cousin and she had a scale so I put them on. The other 2 are a male and female Bronze something. The name eludes me right now. They are on the smaller side more like the male being 14 pounds tops. The female looks to be the same as FAT A**. That is the sister of the Deli male that you got.

Cool!!! I wanna see them! I think my turkey (Mr. Gobbles) is probably about 40 pounds by now...

YES! I will have to take pictures of the chicken coop and the garden. I must get one of the FR's lounging around. They act like real chickens in my mind. Scratching around and weeding the yard. I had a quail coop built but I had to move the chickens out so I put them in there while I get some fencing done. It is high up. The broodies 17 babies can fly out no problem but the FR's crack me up. They fly and tumble. Hilarious. I am so afraid they will break something that I carry them down now. They will just stand there and let me do the heavy lifting.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

Those are the only ones named so far... I need more chicken names!!!

Aw, I want chicks. Anyway, as adorable as the name Mr. Gobbles is, Pralines takes the cake. Too cute!
