Up here in Ridgecrest  (Death Valley Area)  we have a hugh amount of hawks and roadrunners.  Do you know that roadrunners fly ?  Just do research and you will see that they are predators and do fly.  I have seen pairs of those cute birds on roof tops eying my flock. The birds and my dog alerted me to the problem by making a terrible racket. 

One year during the fires we evacuated to the desert. Some friends brought their canary and had it's cage sitting on the ground in the shade. They watched in horror as a roadrunner ran up to the cage, pulled the canary out through those tiny bars and ran off with it!! Just made me think of chicks...sometimes we like to put them out in the sun...good idea to make sure the cage has small wire.
