Deb, I headed down there when you have a herd. After all you will need a shepherdess.

LOL... I am self limited to four. Not much of a herd. Even with my four bottle babies I need to walk with a staff to keep from getting knocked over..... Everyone wants to be first to walk with me and the jostling sometimes gets exasperating. A nice staff about as tall as myself made of Closet hanger rod. helps me keep my ground and guide the goats to more peaceful endeavors.

FWIW.... (for what its worth) I want some Barbados Black belly Sheep too. (hair sheep) Sheep can be milked too. Though they are a little less domesticated than Goats you can barely tell the difference. With one exception..... Sheep tails hang down. And sheep cannot have feed that has copper in it..... They are good foragers in the desert and complement the goats because they eat different food.

I have an E-friend that is a breeder in Washington State. Shes a retired harness maker I bought my Draft horse sized saddle from her. She is very particular as to where her youngsters go to. She says they have better meat to carcass ratio than Wool sheep..... Lower fat. I want to get a two for one deal from her.... You gotto make sure they are Barbados black belly sheep and not Texas Barbados. Texas Barbados are cross bred with wool sheep and have Huge horns they are used for Trophy hunters.

There was a fellow in Jacumba that had them (the cross). His Ram took on a Cow Tried to knock her down. She kicked one of his horns off. The cross is domesticateable but Definitely need to be Dis-budded.

Yes, I am well aware of the two similar "breeds", I've done a bit of research on them... I do want the pure ones for helping to preserving the breed.

I believe there are a few local breeders.... Um well in Southern California. But after watching my friends herd I wont be venturing into sheep till I get true fencing up, and am prepared to bottle feed. His were being raised only for meat so he didn't do anything with them except throw them hay. When my dog walked by the fence all the ewes lined up and stared her down stomping their feet.
