Anyone interested in my cabinet incubator? Its in really clean condition, not used much - I did emu eggs in it this spring and not much else.

I guess so, I actually had 2 people that wanted it, but one was indecisive and the person who ended up buying it came right away with cash in hand. If I ever sell a bator again, I'll post here first before craigslist, so my BYC friends can have the first shot. LOL

Anybody ever have two broody hens on one nest? One of my Polish hens went broody and about a week later an ameraucana jumped in there with her and has been there ever since. They have eight silkie eggs. This is the first time I have left eggs under broody hens so not sure what to expect. All the eggs were layed within about five days and are most likely fertile as I have two silkie roosters and only three silkie hens. The Polish chicken is extremely protective of her eggs and I can't even get a hand in there to check things out with getting pelted with chicken expetives and pecked pretty hard. I thought I would just let things take their course, wait the 21 days and see what happens. I did catch the Polish off the nest for a few seconds and she puffed up like a turkey.



Is there anything else I should be doing? They do have food and water a short distance from the nest.

How sweet.... I am on the Broody hens thread and several of them have had two in a nest hatching eggs. It works as long as the hens get along.

[Knock Kneed Hen]

I had the same situation arise here. I opted to give one hen a couple of the eggs in her own nest box. I brought the hens food and water several times a day and took them off the nest for potty breaks. Yes, . The chicks hatched at the same time. I kept them separate for a while then slowly let them out together with their chicks. One hen does fine with the other and accepts all the chicks as hers. The other hen appears to be fine, but I've been present a couple of times when she goes ballistic on one of the chicks. It's the same chick each time...she just doesn't like it around. I won't keep them together anymore until the chicks are older. She really went at that little chick, had it in her beak and threw it, tried stomping it. Lucky I was right there. I guess each situation is different. Just keep a close watch over the situation and be prepared to intervene if necessary.

Maybe it's because she's having a bad hair day or being a single mom is taking it's toll....
