San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I love that Elara puts up such a brave front, and is strong in the face of chicken addiction.

I think it's sad that people are dumping ducks, but they're doing the same thing with horses, too. Tragic.

I wont be at the meet up but hubby wants to go.

I did want to post that he will be bringing some marinated feta

Frozen goat milk too but please let me know by email.
we use it here at our home but will be labeled for pet consumption only.

He will bring just what is requested.
For a complete list and prices just email

Open to trades wink, wink Chef Glenn.

Well, the Ducky was picked up today, but we almost didn't find her. The other two that were with her were female, too! But, only one duck could be rescued, possibly two, and we thought that it was better that the two that were left at the lake would do better than one alone, so we left the other two for now. They didn't seem interested in going to the water at all and one was panting. After seeing their sister go away, the ran around calling for her and then settled in the shade. They are just waiting by the parking lot as if they're waiting for their owner to come back and take them home. They were even offered food, but did not eat it.

Little Darlene settled in just fine. She drank a lot and ate a little. Seemed to like the affection lavished on her by a 6 year old girl that pointed out she was much prettier than any of her Naked Neck Chickens. We'll get her healed and find a good home for her. Thank you for putting out the call for help!! We all do what we can when we can. I appreciate you being there for these little ones.

OK I put four Guinea eggs in the incubator with about sixteen Araucana eggs. The only eggs I am able to candle are the Guinea eggs and they are developing nicely. (only one clear) Araucana eggs should go on lock down at day 18. And the Guinea eggs should go on lock down at day 25. So the only difference will be the fact that the lock down eggs should stop turning then? I thought the humidity needed to go up on lock down.

So what humidity do you keep your eggs at in your Cabinet hatcher. I am assuming you dont change the humidity for lock down time. I am sooo a newbie as this is my first ever hatch and have thrown in complications I shouldnt have for my first attempt.

Doctor, I have a problem. I have a really bad case of pulletitis. It started as a Wyandotte Weakness, became an Australorp Ailment, showed signs of an Easter Egger Epidemic, and it has quickly become a Dorking Disaster.

Help me, before it becomes a Cooping Catastrophe.

Dana - if chicken addiction is the stage you come to where you quickly close your browser when your husband comes in the room because he caught you surfing the chick sites, I'm there. I feel so ashamed.

LOL -chicken porn..

I'd love to go to the meetup, with a few suggestions:
1. No raffle. I went to the meetup owning six chickens. One raffle, six "you won!" fertilized Wellie eggs and a month later I had 23 and a second coop.
2. No one brings chicks. At all. See#1 above.
3. Now that I think about it, maybe it would be better if no one talked to each other. At all. See #1 and #2 above.
4. Who am I kidding. I will be at the meetup. I will participate in a raffle, if there is one. I will bring small baggies of flax seed, DE and kelp to donate to the raffle, if anyone might like those. I will not bring a carrier, or my nephew, and hope it is enough to save me from my doom.

Elara, I have had a rough time lately and you managed you put a smile on my face. HA! This made me think of driving to San Diego for a meetup. I guess it was the first one. Consider yourself lucky. I had to buy a new property to house my addiction.
