San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

HI!!

I am new to chickens and BYC, but stumbled across this post AFTER your last meetup. I am so happy there are some local crazy chicken people. I'm afraid I am fast becoming one of them. We moved to a home with 3 acres....and it came with 1 BR turkey, 1 Production red, 1 speckled OEGB bantam and 1 black breasted red OEGB bantam. Then two weeks ago we got 8 chicks from Hawthorne's....we went for 4 and came hoome with 8. So I've succumbed to chicken math my first go around. Just ordered a new coop, and can't stop thinking about more pretties I can collect!!

So glad to find you!!

Fraunie

Welcome!!!

They are addicting! I moved to a property on about an acre in January and am up to 9 chickens, 2 coops under contruction and 20 eggs in the incubator. It is a fun addiction though - and you do get some eggs out of the deal!

If chicken math goes as they say it does then my husband should have nothing to roll his eyes about with my 19 chickens on 7 acres. That is nothing compared your space to chicken ratio.

You are totally sane - One of my neighbors has got to have close to 50 chickens on about 1 acre. She is the nicest little old lady who sells the most delicious eggs. She is totally sane as well. I really think what you need is more chickens.

Boy, I step away from the computer for the day and all heck breaks loose! :welcome Fraunie, plenty of crazies here! One of our traditions is that each BYC'er gives the new member a rooster as a welcome gift. Please give us your address so that we can welcome you properly!!
