San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I use the enclosed style kitty litter boxes. They are about $14 from the supermarket. Easy to clean :D
They can be found for cheap at thrift stores too.

vannaHaines, How much hardware cloth do you need? I have some small pieces, maybe one would fit. I also have scrap plywood. If you can wait until next weekend I'll hand it off at the meet up.

perchie.girl, Thank God!! Even evacuating can be a pain with all the animals. I feel for the families that have lost their homes. Terrible. The wind was really kicked up here yesterday. Had it been blowing like that when the fire broke out a mile down the road I don't think I'd have my house. Do they know what caused the Shockey fire?

Knock Kneed Hen, For the hardwire cloth, I need about a 3ft x 3ft piece. For the plywood, I think I'm going to need to buy a piece anyway cuz I also want to make a floor for the playhouse coop and cover it with sheet vinyl and the floor needs to be about 4ft x 5ft. Was thinking of just picking up; a 4ft x 8ft piece from home depot and then using the extra to make the ledge, that is unless you have any scraps around the sizes that I need *giggle*

Deb, I have a trailer. It's an extended 2.5 horse - Katee should fit if she's alone. Let me know if you need to get her out!

Phage: pictures!

Valerie: pictures!

Elizabeth: I would ask the good people at Ramona Family Naturals if they can order you soon... they are usually very good about helping people get what they need.

I'm saying a prayer now that today's heat, humidity and winds are favorable for the firefighters.

I'll post pictures as soon as I take some! I'm at work right now, so the earliest won't be till later tonight. But I promise, I'll post pictures soon!

I have a flock of white x barred Bantam Cochins. There are 5 hens & 1 roo, "Will" . I would like for them all to go together but I would consider splitting them up as long as Will goes with at least one of his ladies. If anyone is interested, I would make them a great offer. I could bring them to the meet-up on Sunday. Please PM me if you are interested. They are wonderful, calm birds at 1 1/2 years old. I would keep them, but I desperately need the cage space. Thanks~!

Just had to share, but I started my playhouse to coop conversion this past weekend. I'm happy to say it's almost done! I don't have pictures yet, but I'll post some as soon as I take some.

I got most of the windows screened. The last window I didn't screen yet because I need to buy more hardwire cloth and some plywood to make a ledge. Also need to get those closet post things to create a couple perches inside as well as something to use for a nest box.

My boyfriend, and angel, helped me move everything around so the playhouse coop and my two wooden coops are arranged in a cute arrangement. He calls it Villa de Pollo (Chicken Villa). Hehe, he's too cute.

Anyhoo, I can't wait till it's done! I'm super excited.

Just curious, but what all do you guys use for nest boxes?

Instead of closet posts go for two by fours layed flat. It makes a more comfortable perch for them. I used those closet posts on my first coop and they twirled my girls right off till I figured out how to make them solid.

Cant wait to see pictures of yours.

Oh thank you. Dana.

I have a two horse slant load up there. Perfect Perchie sized Single horse. My problem when I got up there was it was pitch black and I didnt have help hitching. During the day no probs. So What I need to do from now on till fire season is over is keep my truck and trailer hitched up up there.

ANND practice loading..... Shes good but not for me.... sigh.
