I have an 8X20 coup. I sections off half of it when I got my 26 baby chicks so they would stay clustered up and noone get lost. They are now 4wks old so I removed the partition. I put sand in the new section and planned to put sand in the old section as well, however the pine shavings still look pretty good and don't smell so I was thinking about leaving the shavings and mixing it with sand. Has anyone else done this? Any suggestions?

When we had our girls in Phoenix, we had a large run. We used the wood in the nest boxes and it eventually ended up on the ground. The ground was already a fine sandy kind of dirt, so it all worked fine.

Thanks for replying. I left it for the last 3 days and the chicks took care of it for me, the pine chips are well on the way to being blended in.
