Sand as brooder base

I live on a sand dune, I use sand in my brooder. None of my poultry die because of being on sand. Everywhere my poultry go, they are on sand.

Your claims are not true.
My bad I just found that out many people told me already that if you use fine sand there is a choking hazard but not grain sand and it leaves you with no exuse to leave me with the angry emoji.

This is my second year raising turkeys. Last year I used the pine shavings, this year I went with peat moss. Like the peat so much better than the shavings. I've had them for 2 weeks and haven't had to clean out the brooder yet (22 poults in a 6'x2' tartar stock tank). Don't have to clean shaving out of feed/water. Heat seems more stable (heat lamps raised earlier/larger warm bedding area)than the shavings. I did use a hot water tank pan, bought at home Depot, under the water. Definitely highly recommend doing it!
Good luck with your babies🦃
