Sand floor...thank you!

I was letting my dog chase the (unpopular) Canadian Geese at this farm. The neighbor had his dog kill 2. Now - all the geese are gone.

I found a website for Geese Police where folks use Border Collies to drive away Canadians. I had no idea the fun my dog was having would have a permanent affect. He never actually got near them, and he isn't a killer.

Now... back to odor control for sand floors.

When I finished my first coop (5x8) I went with the deep litter method and didn't like the dust. So today I went to the gravel pit and got a 3500# of sand that is washed out of the gravel. I think this might be river sand cost $10 cleaned out coop and put in sand and the rest in my 12x18 run. Time will tell if it was a mistake. I didn't put gravel down first in the run maybe I should have. Should I cover run with tarp?

Where are you finding your sand for so cheap? I was quote $50 for a cu yd. for paver sand. Based on what others are saying here, that seems high? Is that about right?

Here in Atlanta I get a bobcat scoop that fills the back of the ford sport Trac truck for $30... It has taken two trips so far and has a nice cover now in both coops but I think o e more will do the trick this weekend.

Some who have put down gravel have found the chickens scratch it up to the surface (on their way to china) and then it is a mess. I have mine covered.

If it's a rock quarry then it should be granite dust, which is like sand but it's gray. Is that what you have. I can get that stuff cheeeeeeeap. If it works I'm better off.
