Sand in run

Thank you so much for your input! I’m glad you have used jr successfully with no issues and that it’s easy to scoop. Do you find it drains pretty well? We have a covered run but need to get a French drain or something put in nearby because water tends to pool up all around and inside the run if we get several days of rain. I was hoping the sand would help a little.

I got a quote on the masonry sand and found it was way cheaper than buying it in bags, even with the delivery fee. I’m going to look at what they have in person tomorrow just to be sure but then will probably go ahead and order it. I really want to get our coop and run overhauled before my new babies move out there in about 6 weeks.

Any run will have compacted bedding if there's not adequate drainage around it. And wet poopy sand is very unpleasant smelling. You must figure out a way to keep water from accumulating in the run. Covered runs are also a way to keep bedding dry and they keep the chickens safer, as well.

Yes I’d like to put in a French drain. The run is covered.
