Sand is for bathing...not eating!

OK - so the girls were trying to dust bath in the pine so I put a small platter of sand in there for them and all they want to do is eat it and POO in it!

they are using it as grit....

What I wanna know is why they poop in the water? Then look at you like you are the nasty one for letting it get that way!
 
Sand will act like grit for baby chicks! They do love to play in it too. Our grown hens LOVE the kids' sandbox.
