sand okay as chick grit?

All I give mine ia sand. Northern peaple will reconize the sand as tube sand. The tube bags of sand used for weights in a vehicale. Sizes range from 3/8' to grain size. Had them over a year and have given it to them since the day I brought them home.

I have a small sand bin in the brooder since they are a week old. I was at Agway asking for Chick Grit and the woman rolled her eyes and said give them some sand or dry dirt to play in. She's raised thousands of chickens so that's what I've done. I haven't had a problem yet....

I wouldn't give them beach sand. I've heard salt will kill a chicken. Is that correct?
