I'd tend to think shavings would be your best bet, with that size of a coop

Pine shavings keep the birds warmer and cleaner in my experience and is probably easier to clean. You could hold up 200 hens in that coop.

Sand is the ultimate litter, use it! Instead of scooping out ALL the shavings, just pick out the poop real quickly with a kitty litter scoop

Unless you can drive a tractor with a front end loader inside there, you'd be looking at moving TONS of sand by hand.

It's going to take a couple of dump truck loads of shavings as it is

Zowie Batman!!! That's one smokin' coop.
So what di you decide. My coop is pretty large too and is currently being built. I am seeing how your debate is going and might help me decide which way to go, ie, sand or shavings or straw.

We have a 10x12 coop with cement floor and use sand. Find it very easy to pick up the droppings off the top. We have 10 chickens, even dozen at 1 time and are very happy with it. Easy enough to get rid of IMO, easier then shavings. We just put it out in the field as adding sand to the clay soil we have is great. Now the shavings from the horses we notice more in the field then the sand. Good Luck either way.
