Sand question

Great idea. I can put it right by the pen door. I have a big green flat planter that would work. I dont know if 2 at a tile could fit though. Would kind of dirt do you put in? Just play sand? Can you get something like that at Wal Mart?

I did put a planter box in there that I got at an auction. It isnt too big, but I went to 4 stores trying to find a flat something or other that I could put sand in. I put the sand in there, and they all started eating it.
I hope thats ok?

And it will not hurt them. Maybe someone will get the hang of it??

We just use dirt from our garden. Thought about adding a little sand in there for some grit and help dry it out incase it would get wet.

I have a huge tupperware-type box - like a litterbox- that I have filled with sand, mixed in some ashes from the fireplace and some DE. I put it in their run (take it in when it rains). Although it can only fit one big lady at a time they love it! While one is in, others perch on the side picking pieces of sand off her feathers, waiting their turn. Easy to fill and clean.

I just use a small plastic shoebox container like rubbermaid makes. The girls like to come into the tractor and dust or get some grit.

They take turns and since I only fill the box half full, there is very little mess or kickout.

We move the tractor with the box in it as it weighs very little and it stays dry. I throw in some de from time to time so the girls get the benefit of dusting with that as well.

I would just toss or pile it up in the run. if they want it they will use it. If not no big deal. I put a sand pit in my run figuring they would use it as a sand bath----nope they like the dirt under the ramp into the house instead.
