sand question

I paid around $128.00 for a large dump truck load. Nothing special, just sand, like you would use in a building foundation. Makes keeping the run clean so much easier.

Thanks for an awesome idea! I'm in Portland too and have been trying to think of a way for a 'rainy day' dustbath. I'm new to chickens, my girls are just over 16 weeks so we are getting ready for our first eggs.

Depending on the volume of sand you require, it may be less expensive to contact a quarry directly and ask for concrete / river sand. You can also contact your local ready mix producer and work a deal that way. The sand from either site will be a more course product than what you will get from a building material store and way cheaper. Good luck

I used a gravel/sand mix in my run, I find that it helps keep their claws down and provides all sizes of grit needed for their diet. https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=63059-mother-cluckers

Oh how I love this coop. There are so many creative, industrial folks who can make a chicken coop look like a palace and this is one of the.

I will just keep dreaming.....

Thanks everyone for the input.
We got medium river sand; 2890lbs of it!! It took 3 loads in our little Ford Ranger, but we got it done, and it looks so nice. I can hardly wait to get the girls in their new home!
It's been a long time coming.
If I can figure out how to post pictures of the building of the "Coop DeBill" I will when we are all finished.
Thanks for all of the help here at BYC.
