I think everyone who's posted here has done an awesome job of explaining their positions without being inflamatory or rude. As someone who's very much on the fence right now I have enjoyed reading through the different posts. You've put some of my gut feelings into words.

Thank you all.

I might have been persuaded to vote for McCain
(I am an Independent

) And I like him and most of what he stands for.

But then he choose her as his running mate.

I cant even call her by her first name. In our neighborhood she is "Palin" out of respect for all the Sarah's we all know and love. Trying not to sully such a beautiful name as much as possible.

What experience does she have doing things that Obama says he would like to do?

Um, neither does Obama. There's no question as to who has more experience and it isn't Obama, that's for certain. I'm having flashbacks to the Clinton campaign. Never could understand his appeal, either, to women or the voters in general. Gave me chills every time I saw him. Then he showed me why after he was in office. (((shudder)))

EDITED TO STAY OUT OF THIS Non-Chicken Related Discussion. Chickens calm me down-this gives me a headache.

My criteria when voting for president is as follows:
1. Someone with high moral standards and character. Not necessarily a perfect person, since none of us are perfect, but someone who can admit when they are wrong and who is genuinely sorry for their mistakes and makes efforts to correct them.

2. A smart person. Not necessarily the most educated person, because education alone is not enough. Too much ivy legue education can sometimes get in the way of common sense. Not all things taught in our ivy legue colleges today promote good judgement and a moral character (see 1 above)

3. A humble person. I do not want someone in office who leaves me with the impression that they place themself above me and the rest of my fellow Americans. When I see a politition who is arrogant, I see someone who does not have America and her peoples' best intrests at heart. Arrogant polititions care only about their own intrests and how to make more money and gain more power.

4. A person who listens. There is no one who knows it all. Those who will not listen to the advise if others are ignorant and usually arogant (see 3 above). This does not mean that you have to act on the advise, but you should evaluate it for the merits it may have and glean from it any value there may be.

5.The most important thing that I look for is someone who does not look at our Constitution and the Bill or Rights as living documents. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights are the rock on which this country was founded. When the interpretation of the Constitution and our rights can shift and change easily, like the sand on a beach, our inalienable rights, as spelled out in them, are in jeopardy. Like the sands on a Louisiana beach, any political storm can wash them away. That is the reason that the framers of this nation tried to make it difficult to change them!

To all the women that think McCain chose Palin to try to suck-up womens votes, it is not always about you! McCain chose Palin to shore up the Republican party and it has worked admirably. If he in fact draws in votes from free thinking women, then it is an added plus! Seems to me that in a little over 200 years a lot of people have forgotten that this country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. Additionally, dont you think it odd that Sen. Obama wants to take away your choice of schools your kids go to while he sends his to private schools cause "he can"? It is very easy to take the rights away from someone that cant speak for themselves. Have we lost sight of that?
Fred Thompson made the point the other night re Husseins tax increases not affecting the middle class and he was right. If you dont have a job, dont plan on buying anything for your family in the next four years or dont plan on dying, his tax increases wont affect you at all!
Cant wait to see Sarah dismantle one of the "good ole boys" in the debates!
For those of you who have "special needs" children, her promise to be "your advocate in Washington", should be enough to convince you she is "real".
McCain/Palin

Let's call a spade a spade....

Whether you like Sarah Palin comes down to your political beliefs. There's a real war going on now between liberal and conservative women.

Liberal women always thought that they had the inside track to the first executive position of great importance. I would argue that Condi Rice has already broken that barrier as Secretary of State but gets almost no support or recognition from liberal women or minority groups because she is conservative. Which is a shame, because I think she is fantastic.

Now, Sarah Palin threatens to further advance the success of conservative women in politics. That seems to scare the bejesus out of liberal minded women who thought that they were going to lead women in the new century. So much so, that they will go out of their way to discredit them.

Sarah also represents an entire half of the female population that has been largely ignored, forgotten, discounted and under-represented by national women's groups because of their conservative beliefs.

I, for one, say bravo!

I get what you are saying. I feel the same way as you about curling up in my bed and crying, but then, I've been feeling that way for the past 8 years.

I've been feeling that way for the past 12 years. Don't forget the MALE Clinton! OY VAY!!!
I am happy to finally be interested in Politics again!!! And yes she had to ad lib alot. The teleprompter did not work. Beside as Guliani put it. WE are doing the hiring. Do we want experience, or On the job training?
I think all in all. I'd rather have experience on my side than a pretty boy who has "nice ideas".
Beside..ISN'T SHE GREAT!!!

I can't imagine NOT looking at the Consitution as a living document. Why, if we looked at it as something that should never, ever be changed regardless of how the world is moving around us, we would still have slavery, women still wouldn't be able to vote, we wouldn't have the freedoms of speech, religion, press, assembly, etc.
