I've also read "God's Politics" and fully agree with you. As Wallis and gang so rightly say, God is Not a Republican OR a Democrat. I do not and will not join a political party for the very reason that I want to hold myself accountable to call ALL of them into question. Did you know that some of the founding fathers also begged that we not have political parties? Too bad we didn't listen!

Sorry, but that "Obama's a Muslim" nonsense is just that -- nonsense. It's just more of the lies that have been so widely spread around during this election cycle.

For more factual details on Obama's religious upbringing, look here:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

Snopes is another great place to look, in addition to FactCheck.org , if you want to debunk the falsehoods being passed around on both sides.

I checked out "factcheck" and then went a little further. factcheckED.org then newdream.org/about/endorsements.php These are all organizations started by the flora/hewlett family of hewlett-packard fame - Check who is on new dreams board of directors and see titles such as "Conservationist; former field manager of planned Parenthood; world wildlife fund and natural resources defense fund" to name a few. Glowing endorsements by Danny Glover actor/activist and Meryl Streep. Still think what you read is gospel? Fox News has "Fair and Balanced" on their web page but I hear no Libs quoting them! Same old same old - Please November...hurry up!

spatcher--the thing about the FactCheck site is that it provides documentation for EVERY fact it reports. Just look at the end of every article for the extensive list of sources. These are NOT opinion pieces. Every fact they report comes from a verifiable source, that can be tracked and independently checked. No, I do NOT think everything I read is gospel, but I know enough to be able to follow the information trail to see where it began. It's a much more reliable system than just picking sources you think you can trust and blindly believing everything they say. Read, read, read, but more than that, verify, verify, verify!

I knew that this was still being rumor-milled around, but I had NO idea that anyone honestly still believed it! WOW. People haven't "forgot" that Obama "was Muslim," because, um...he wasn't. Wow. Just...wow.

This kind of "knowledge" is what we're up against, when people won't track down the source of what they're told. Just the TINIEST bit of investigation would've turned up the truth about the "Obama/Muslim" tall tale. I'm talking GOOGLE.

I don't know anything about NewDream or what it might or might not have to do with FactCheck, and I don't have time to dig into it right now. However, FactCheck is a project of the Annenberg Foundation. You can find their organizational info here:

http://www.factcheck.org/about/

Remember, FactCheck debunks factual errors on BOTH sides of the aisle -- not just one or the other.

And now I really am getting into the shower so I can leave town!

Actually, the Muslim rumor about Obama doesn't bother me, his racist preacher does. You can say what you want but he chose to attend regularly and listen to that man spew that garbage. I cannot vote for someone I feel is tainted by racism.

In addition to that, I cannot vote for someone who I feel will infringe on my second amendment rights.

This quote from Obama is actually the clincher for me because it shows how out of touch with working class people he is. He is an elitist and has no clue about what normal people like me think and feel and believe. It was given at a closed-door fund raiser in San Fransisco.

"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama said. "And it's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

I asked on another thread for someone to explain to me why I should vote for the Democratic Party when their platform goes against some of my basic beliefs and feelings. No one even attempted. Now I will ask why I should vote for a man who is fundamentally out of touch with anything I believe.

I do not usually discuss politics here. I don't care how anyone chooses to respond to this. I just wanted to state my point.

I feel exactly the same about McCain/Palin.

We are clearly a country divided.

Ahhh and that's why elections are so great! We get to choose who wins if enough of us feel the same way. At least we are afforded the choice in our country. I can't even imagine living in a country where I wouldn't even have a chance at a say over who governed.
