Larry is right. You should DEFINITELY get the Old Style (aka - Classic or Old Fashioned) frills. They are also shown, seperately from the short-beaked Modern type. So if you want to show Oriental Frills....no fear! You can get the self sufficient kind

Otherwise, you'd need to feed them yourself, or use foster parents to hatch the eggs and feed the babies.

Isn't it a similar situation to the more modern German Owls?

My little rollers always made good foster parents. I only raised the owls for about one breeding season. I just didn't like the way that beak looked.

No, as far as I know, the OGO standard hasn't changed. They still have the same size beaks as Classic Oriental frills

However, show type African Owls and Turbits (modern) need foster parents. Turbits look very similar to OGO's. The difference is that OGO's have shell crests, and Turbits have peak crests

Not to be confused with the Old Dutch Turbit though. It has a longer beak - just like there are two types of Oriental Frills...well, there are two kinds of Turbits

One that can feed the young and one that can't, but BOTH types are shown with their own standards. Although they aren't technically called 'modern this or that', I call them modern in order to differentiate between the two styles.
