Hello,

I ordered 6 chicks from a local feed store which should be delivered in 2 days. I'm using a bathtub in a spare bathroom as a brooder. I lined it with rough paper towels and have a Premier 1 Comfort Chicks heater. I also have pine shavings to put down once the babies are able to find the food and water without problem. I bought Sav-A-Chick electrolytes and probiotics as I read the traveling can be stressful for the little guys and this helps. The package says to offer both the Sav-A-Chick mixture AND separate plain water. However, no forums make reference to providing both. Does anyone have experience with this?

! Pleased you joined our flock! I've used that product but I guess I never read the label - I never offered plain water along with it and my chicks did fine. You might seek additional opinions by posting in the Baby Chicks Forum here:https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/11/raising-baby-chicks
And you can glean a lot of information from the Baby Chicks section of the Learning Center here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-and-raising-chicks
And here is a link to some old thread that mention Sav-A-Chick - perhaps you can glean some information: https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=Sav-A-Chick
Best wishes and thank for joining BYC!!

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. Personally, I would not offer both - just the nav-a-chick, but only for a day or two, before going to plain water. I'm sure that you will find some great info on the links given by redsoxs.

Best wishes

Welcome!

As you have already received good advice and links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
