I might add a section about what adult chickens need. Animal shelters get a lot of chickens after they stop being Easter chicks. Nothing too complicated, but to prevent the "chicken-in-a-box" scenario.

I think this is such a great idea. I talked to a friend of mine who used to work at an AGWAY. He said that the only thing he would change is to call it something other than "SAVE A CHICK" and don't use the word campaign. Might sound similar to one that might be run by some national animal rights organization (no names, please!). You know, "Save the dolphins", "Save the baby seals", etc.

How about calling it something like "Bringing Up Chickie" or "How to Raise a Happy Chicken" or something?

Maybe it could say at the top:

"Happy Chicks: A How-to Guide"
Presented by www.BackyardChickens.com, an online group of chicken keepers

I guess it depends on the purpose of the document--is it to deter people from adopting chicks or educate those who do? I think it's kind of a combination of both...

Well, I've fit it all into a brochure, but I'm not sure how to share it with the board. I think I incorporated everyone's ideas, however I wasn't able to give any info on care for grown-up chickens. Frankly, there just wasn't room.

I had to make the type pretty small to get it all in with just the chick stuff.

Does anyone know how I can share this MS Publisher file with the board?

Regarding getting the MS Publisher file: best bet is to find a way to export / print it to a PDF. That's the only real way to preserver all the fonts, spacing, etc.

If you can do that, email me the PDF and I'll get it onto the site.

This double sided tri-fold is VERY professional and I love it. We may want to think about putting together a one page 8.5 x 11 for people who want to (or can only) print one sided documents. Any chance we can cram the most important info and links onto a business card and have everyone get them printed at their local office store or online via vistaprint?

Just brainstorming ideas to make this easy / applicable for everyone!

Instead of a business card, how about a postcard size?
A little bigger, easier to read, what do you you think?
I kind of like the business card idea too, maybe more for info on BYC and links to care and feeding, etc.

Yup, we can definitely allow for lots of options. My thoughts on business cards is they can be printed super cheap (either at home, online, or local store), and you can ship them, hand them out, etc. very easily.

Great ideas / suggestions. Keep them coming!

Llysse, Your a professional layout artist, aren't you, great job !!

A couple of questions;
Do most people know to dunk a chicks beak into the water so the chicks know what it is?
Isn't 95° the starting point for brooding?
Shouldn't medication chick starter be the only recommendation to a novice?
Is wood shavings healthy for chicks to eat? Personally, I put hardware cloth over newspaper, it's non-slip, absorbent and the chicks can't eat the paper. The chicks are 'forced' to eat only the chick starter feed.
Can a text copy be available with graphics(or without) that can be one color Xeroxed ? Printing a bunch of color copies from a home printer or Xerox can get expensive.
Could it be designed with two (or more) copies on one page for cheaper Xeroxing/printing?
