Save a dog. Get fired

Well these stores should allow pets. I don't know where their brains are but only a scant amount would be coming in with dogs after the initial excitement wears off. It's not like hoards of people would be bringing in dogs.
Mossyoaklane, I know common sense would mean sometimes it's okay. But a lot of times it becomes a bad habit to some.

I still pose the question why is the pet in a car to begin with if it is not going to or from somewhere to get a service performed on it, or if it isn't a service animal. they should be at home. I don't see my neighbor bring his beef cattle to town with him. Also I have freinds with a 200 gallon sea water aquarium and they don't get the fishies out in a drinking glass and blow bubbles in it on the way to the store and back so the fish can get a view other than the 4 walls....

Oldrooster..your question has been answered several times. Not everyone thinks alike...some people take their dogs on car rides...some people don't. What's the big issue about a dog riding in a car?

My dog was treated very poorly before we adopted him. He was kept in a cage constantly, had never had a bath, and was severely underweight.
He has high anxiety to the point of throwing up if left at home alone for an extended period of time. He is a family member and is treated as such....with the utmost care and respect. If something causes him that much stress, I will do what is in my power to calm it, as I am his caretaker.

I think comparing livestock to a household pet is not an equal comparison. It causes a cow stress to be put into a trailer, trailered around and unloaded. When I had cattle they were also treated with great care and respect....by not stressing them out hauling them around.

Unlike cattle, dogs are pack animals who are bonded to their humans. they truly enjoy being with people and going on rides in the car. They have more sophisticated brains than fish or cattle and have control over their bladders enough to be able to be brought into buildings, unlike cattle, and do not need a completely different environment to survive, like fish.

And many people truly enjoy having their dogs with them for companionship. They enjoy giving their dogs the treat of going in the car. When we even say the word "car" our dogs start bouncing around with excitement.

you don't get that with a cow. (imagining completely impassive face chewing cud) and the lack of potty training would be a problem...LOL

OK, forget cows and fish, how about my mule? Anyone who knows donkeys and mules knows, they bond, and bond closely. They have memories that will put an elephant's to shame - my mule is so smart, she seems psychic. At 32", she's only slightly larger than a dog, and she's almost housebroken - there are only certain places in the pasture and barn where she eliminates, if she needs to go, she'll hold it until she can get to one. Lots of horses have been taught to urinate on command; I know of a miniature horse that was trained as a service animal that defecated on command, too (how many dogs are trained to do that?) My mule was 9 years old when I got her; her previous owner had a devil of a time getting her in a trailer. For us, she jumps in and out of a trailer, no problem. Most people fall in love with her on sight, and she loves meeting people and other equines. Better watch your dogs around her, though - she's been known to attack dogs.

And to my mind, that's the problem with this whole argument. Because as much as we may love them, our pets are still animals. However well-mannered and well-trained they may be, given the right circumstances, they will act like animals. Most people don't have dogs, don't know how to act around dogs, may not like dogs. Some are even afraid of dogs. Should all non-dog-owners have to put up with them, anywhere and at any time, just because some people are attached to their pets?

If the dog is in your own car... yep... noone has to be IN my car with my dog..
If its a pet store that allows pets inside (like petco..) then yep... you KNOW dogs go in there..so if you hate dogs why would you go in there?...

If my dog is in my car (never when it's over 70 degrees out, however) then he is not bothering anyone and is not in a public space. I can also take him to families homes, as well as dog parks and pet stores. My pet is allowed in my car whenever he chooses and my motives should not be questioned unless he is in harms way.
