Saved a dog from the streets. Now what?

It's not uncommon for a dog to have rear dew claws. Most breed standards require them to be removed.

I saw them on saint bernard pups before.. I just thought it was weird because my dogs didn't have them.

You may want to look in her mouth. Toy dogs are notorious for having dental problems, which can cause pain while eating. Rear dewclaws are usually removed as the nail can grow in a curve and injure the leg OR get ripped up the leg when getting caught in something. Keep the nail clipped as short as possible to avoid these injuries. A fecal should be done as well as a blood test to see if she has any organ problems or heartworm. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I have a chihuahua mutt, Malchi, he is skinny, you can feel his ribs and spine.

But it has more to do with him being high strung, I swear he can hear the ladybug walk on the lawn across the street! He does get cold easy, so you might want to think about a winter coat or too. Too much weight on the little dogs is really hard on them too. Since you have no records, you might want to have her get a new rabies shot since it is the law in CA that all dogs have them.

Your vet might skip the other vaccines because she is older

And thank you for picking her up! Pit Bulls and Chihuahuas fill the pounds and an older lady with a bad leg might have never been put up for adoption. And might be why the old owners abandoned her.

I would take her to the vet if for no other reason, the health of your dogs. Remember your chicken biohazard protocol? Don't introduce new ones to an existing flock until they have been quaranteened. Apologise to your dogs.

That dog has you trained for sure. Start giving all the dogs a mix of the food and what you have been feeding her. Slowing wean them off of it.

On a similar note, we recently FINALLY found a dog food these picky GSD's will eat. Kibbles & Bits. We tried EVERYTHING! Nutro, Science Diet, Pedigree, feed store brand, dog chow..... It was exhausting, but they would just pick and not put on or keep weight. They INHALE the kibbles & bits. Go figure.

She's eating the purina now so the food issue is out of the way. Her teeth are fine, very white, when I bring animals home I check them out. I'm not going to bring a dog that appears to have worms or a disease into the backyard or frontyard. The extra dewclaw isn't growing out of proportions either.
The base vet does de-worming and vaccinations. Other things too. The lady vet filed my doxie's nails and we thought it was free, so we're like "oh okay that's neat", then at the front desk they charged us for it. Angel didn't even need it. All my dogs nails never grow longer than they should be.
