I'm hatching bobwhite quails they are on day 15 now but when I was candling around day 7 I ended up cracking shell a bit so I put a little bit of tape in it and prayed for the best! The baby is growing perfect and is fine! But worried about hatching now and when i should take the tape off, should I take it off before lock down or what!!? It's only the tiniest crack now but the tape is a bit sticky.. any ideas?!

I don't know. I put tape on a crack half a centimeter around on an EE egg and it hatched without assistance or pulling off the tape.
The crack was over the air cell, so minimal harm was done.
(Don't assist hatching, the chicks never thrive after that.)

Chicks do live after
They live but don't thrive.
When I tried I swore off. The duckling I tried to save was paralyzed. I figured to let nature do it's thing. Plus, in a breeding perspective, you don't want it to pass on weakened genes. (Lol I wrote jeans. :lol: )
If you want to care for a possibly disabled quail, that's fine, but I wouldn't use it in a breeding program unless it hatches on its own.

I assist any time its needed and have had plenty survive and thrive beautifully!
Chicks (too many count over the years, 3 call ducks this year (my first go with hatching these) and a 1yr old gander + a 5 month old goose and gander.
Can show pics if you'd like .
If it were me, Id leave the tape till you see it externally pip and begin to unzip.
Best of luck to you and the little! :love
@CapricornFarm can you help?:fl
You know quail more then me! :hugs

It works. Just something I wouldn't do personally. I just am wondering, how do you assist a quail egg that is the size of a quarter?

Can you get a picture of the egg with the tape on it so I (we) can see where exactly the tape is?

If is not covering the air cell area then it may not need to be removed at all.

Very carfully!
