'Saved' Silkie from TSC - He's Dying.

He died the night before. I truly think his lungs were full of water from his fall in the water dish. It was only a couple of seconds and he was on his back, but as small as he was and I didn't get the rocks in there soon enough... Kids were out finding some as it happened and hubby was watching him - not well enough - as I posted here. It's a lesson learned and I won't be soon to forget it.

He was still eating and drinking up until the last 6 hrs of his life. My husband wouldn't cull him and I couldn't do it either, so we let him slip away as comfortably as we could.

so sorry to hear about it's passing..

Aw, so sorry. Just be comforted by knowing you did everything possible to help. You're a good chicken mommy.

So was I. I was hoping to keep this one - I wanted a Silkie to spoil and be a pet. I kind of figured it was over when he fell in the water. He never really stood up, either. He stayed in a roosting position and scooted himself with his wings and good leg. I thought maybe we could fix the bad leg and he'd be okay. Well, I guess in the end I learned a lesson and I lost my first chicken. At least I tried and didn't just let it get trampled on until it died at TSC.
