Edited to add: AT&T was charging us 90 something dollars a month for long distance and local home phone service. Plus we had internet and cell phones!

So when we told them we were dropping home phone service they tried to talk us into just basic with taxes it still ran almost 30 dollars! Tottally dropped home phone service and just went with cell phones and have internet through the cell phone company just a little over 100 dollars a month for both!!! Now AT&T sends us a offer for 14 dollars a month, go figure:/ They can keep there offer.

DH told the cable company we wanted to cut off our service since dish was cheaper.
We didn't really want dish though...

They cut our bill down to what the dish subscription would be and then added a movie channel for free!

Good job! I think now a days you can get them to do just about anything!

I have bought a few things that have had some defects. I emailed the companies and got some coupons for FREE replacements!

Also I have emailed some compaines and 'bragged' about one of my favorite items and get sent coupons for some money off, sometimes I get a dollar off!

Edited to ad: not bragging , just thought i would share, just thought of it when you mentioned the offer from your cable company to help keep you as a customer!

Also credit card companies will lower your interest rate if you just ask!

For me it's not necessarily what I've given up, but what I never had in the first place.

I have never had cable since I moved into my place 5 years ago. Two and a half channels works well for me. It makes me read more anyway

I never signed up for parking at work. All you have to do is park three blocks away for free. I save money and get 5 minutes of walking exercise each way.

I've started making bread in the bread maker. It saves money and my place smells soooo much better with bread baking...yummmmm.

Just living conservatively overall. Shutting off lights, using energy efficient light bulbs, car pooling etc etc etc. Although the carpooling is something I'm not liking a whole lot. My drive s perpetually late and then drives way too fast to make up time. I'll be dealing with that issue later today.

is having a bread making machine really cheaper on you? i so love bread, but am afaid to make home made, i will have a hard time not over indulging! which one do you have and does it come with reciepes?

We gave up Dish as well. We get 5 channels(if the wind isn't blowing!). We stay home alot! We eat out about twice a month. Taco tuesday at the local diner costs the 3 of us under $20! DH switched from whiskey to beer and I dropped my Margarita habit. DH switched to taking coffee to work instead of buying power-ades through out the day.I bake all of our bread and all meals are from scratch. DH gets a clothing allowance from his work, I shop thrift stores so the only clothing exspense is DS jeans, must have Carhart!!

We have turned off couple of phone lines that we use for our business, stopped eating fast food and dining out, thinking of turning off dish network, changed our cell phone plan, dropped the newspaper subscription, we do NOT use our electric furnace, changed every light bulb to CFL, put everything on timers, we also are not making any un-necessary trips to town and we are cooking almost everything from scratch.
HOBBY FARMS IS A KEEPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't get rid of that.
