Saving Money, What Have U Done Away With?

Dropped all take out - which we didn't do much anyway, but DH stopped picking stuff up on his way to work. I am trying desperately to get rid of AOL but gosh those people do not take NO for an answer. We only still had it for our e-mail addresses (some of my employers have that as my address I didn't want to fix it...) But, now I can't get rid of them!

Cut off my newspaper

seriously I love my paper. Net is great, but I like the paper in the hands......

Cut back traveling, clothes, extras, we still have to buy DHs carharts!! But laid off no need.

Worst had to cut down the amount of money going into retirement accounts. DH and I really argued this one. What money goes in now is buying at a really good rate, IF it's still there later! I feel like it is good money after bad at this point.

Extra snacks for the kids, soft drinks, sweets.... Alot of the unecessary, but really good, stuff that we don't need. Once in aa while I will get a bag of doritos for the boys to share..... I keep my own snacks here at work and rarely touch them so they last a loooong time.

costly family members! not kidding, i can't give up my dish we get zero channels with out it!,
winter is hard since you can't hang clothes, or open the windows,
last year we gave up a vacation, we won't make that mistake agian, we spent more trying to cure cabin fever

I no longer get my toes done at the salon and wait for as long as I can between waxings, being of Armenian decent this is a big deal.
I tried waxing myself what a sticky mess I made, never again.

I am stretching every bit of food I can and making it a point to eat all left overs. I am buying in bulk when my foods are on sale and freezing the extra for later use. I am going though everything I canned and froze from last harvest. I am also trying to quit smoking but no luck yet.

I am also trying to drive around asd little as possible and TRYING to control my chicken spending (not having any luck with that last one)

Changed to energy efficient light bulbs.
Hang clothes to dry and fluff only in the dryer (I'm in Fla=no snow)
Coupon shop & sale items only if possible and buy in bulk.
Basic on Dish network
Diswasher (only full loads)
Raise our own meat...just put a hog in the freezer and feeding out a steer now.
Chickens of course (free range so lower feed costs and sell enough eggs they pay for their layer pellets.)
Trade when possible.
We don't go anywhere unless we have to and combine trips (groceries, feed, bank). I have to drive through town to work so if I have to get something, p/u on the way home.

They are still doing that? I had them a few years ago, they were so awful when I canceled, kept me on the phone, were obnoxious, wouldn't take no for an answer just like you said. I finally got to 'no' but it was to the point where I had to be almost nasty towards them. I'm not usually like that, but they were practically holding me hostage. Talk about lousy business practice

.

Make them take no for an answer! Don't let them get away with being that obnoxious!

We're the same as a lot of other people on BYC...can't give up what you don't have!

No cable or dish, no cell phones, we don't eat out, I make bread and cook everything from scratch. We're going to start butchering some chickens to put meat in the freezer. Whenever a regular light bulb burns out I replace it with a CFL.

We've recently decided to buy most of our clothes at Goodwill instead of paying full price at other stores. My husband's work jeans only last him 6 months or so, and we can't justify the expense of brand new jeans anymore.

Well, my freezers are full of fruits and veggies and we just had a beef processed-so there is 600lbs of beef in the freezer--(at least until the kids come by and dh fills them up with some..LOL) I have a pantry full of canned things from my garden, orchard and vineyard. Our main food bill is for the animals, bread (I am going to invest in a bread machine) and milk for my dh (he drinks at least 1/2gal a day.

I have given up: eating out,

I resigned from my clubs so there is no extra driving, dues or extras for them.

I since my grandchildren always give me magazines for Christmas --I haven't purchased or placed orders for them in three yrs.. 1 yr. subscriptions are 12- 20$ -(something that they can afford, I get something that I really want/like and something I don't have to shell out money for --it's a win/win situation)! I just give thier parents a list of the ones I would like to have and they choose from my list..

Books: my dd went to a book sale at the public library where she lives and got over 100 books for less than 30$. She is reading them, sending them to me, I am send along to the other kids.. She got three homesteading type books for me and I will keep those..
