Saw a horrible thing at tractor supple.

Tractor Supply does stuff like this but won't sell me 2 chicks to add to my existing group of chicks in the brooder. I no longer do business with Tractor Supply.

It could be state law that prevents it. That said they're clearly ignoring the well being of these chicks. Especially when they sell the damn tubs they keep them in. Why not set up another brooder?

Anyway, I'd get the authorities involved if the conditions have not improved. The last thing TSC should want is to piss off BYC. We are a force to be reckoned with.

This kind of crap makes me irate..and I might be the only one that believes this but it should be illegal for these store to have chicks/ducklings like this.

Sadely most pet stores of any kind that sells animals, reptiles, etc takes very poor care of them. It's about the money only. I'm always educating stores on the proper care of tortoises in their care. Even most of the supplies they sell is dangerous or bad.
That's why people have too speak up. The animals cant speak for themselves.

Yes it is sad..pet stores are one thing tho..more likely to have a animal lover as a employee or at least some knowledge. Unlike these TSC, rural kings..etc, that have employees that cant run a register let alone care for a live animal.
With animal cruelty laws coming into place now..these places should fall under that.
It's good you try to educate when you can tho..kudos

I went to tractor supple to get some chicken food and hay for my rabbit, and I went to go look at the baby chicks. But when I got there my heart sank, they had the bins way over filled. You could not see the floor of the bins with how many chicks were in there and they had to walk on top of each other to get around. And the even worst part is. There were dead chicks in there. We talked to the manager but all he told me was they were taking care of it. But I didn't believe him. I dont know what else to do. View attachment 1736768 View attachment 1736769

I feel your pain...I went to pick up some ducks for my wife last week at one of our local tractor supply stores and I was mortified at the conditions of the chicks and ducks. There was no water and the bedding hadn't been changed. Not to mention the amount of chick droppings in the water drinkers and feeders. When you raise your own chickens or ducks you try to give them the best conditions for living as possible, even if you are just raising them for food. Our chickens and ducks are pets so we take very good care of them. All I can say is it's hard to find good help these days. Most tractor supply stores seem understaffed. I think they should at least have an employee manning the chick and duck pens full time during chick days.

That is a crime. We don't have any TSC out here, too citified, but I am the type that would have raised quite a STINK about it.

I was in a Home Depot looking at house plants, and saw row after row in final death throes. I got a person to come over and he said a woman comes in every day and waters
them. I said she must have missed a few days. I got a shopping cart and put the
most in need plants in it and went to the back of the store where the drinking fountains were.

I was able to get some water into each container and brought them back to where they originated. Then left the store.

Wasn't long before the person I had talked to ,came out to check out what I was doing.
I didn't have anything with me and my summer clothes didn't offer any place to hide anything. Seemed very disappointed that my worst crime was watering plants that needed it.

I stopped buying at local feed stores due to their lack of knowledge and just the overall look of their chicks. I've seen some half dead suffering that they put in a box instead of just humanely helping it along. They somehow always accidentally mix their chicks so sometimes you don't even get what you bought.

I actually prefer to not even go into a feed store at this time that sells chicks because so many people buy chicks for Easter then you see TONS for sale in a week or two on Craigslist or other selling pages.

I prefer to buy at a local farm that knows exactly what they're doing.

I live outside Waco, Tx. We have seen this overcrowded, unsafe practice at both Tractor Supply and Atwoods on multiple occasions. Sometimes layers of chics, often with dead flat under other chics, often no water or food. We have complained every time with the reply full of attitude and it still happens.
