All North American Hawks are incapable of flying away with an adult Barred Rock Hen. They generally however will return to the scene of the crime for a second or third helping, especially if the hawk is not disturbed while feeding.wonder how it would manage this carrying prey.
hopefully someone with references can weigh in on this, but this first statement is contrary to what I remember reading. A full grown barred rock is too heavy for a hawk to carry off. They eat them on the spot if they are big.All North American Hawks are incapable of flying away with an adult Barred Rock Hen. If your neighbors are not nosy, or if they live out of ear-shoot, use this information to see if chicken hawks don't taste just like chickens.

The Goshawk is not an official member of the chicken hawk family but remember that all hawks like a chicken dinner.Amazing video. I've never seen that before. They're scary but beautiful at the same time.
I have had problems with dogs during the day when the chickens are free ranging but not other predators, most of my chickens sleep in the chicken house and I have had a possum come in twice and kill one adult and some babies, but lately something is getting them and taking them outside of the chicken yard to finish them off. Tonight all chickens will be sleeping in the chicken house (which can be secured from predators) and will continue to do so until I decide the predator has moved on. Thanks for your input, hoping that my efforts at putting up over 1300 feet of electric fence wire, ran out of wire and will be getting more and finishing it tomorrow, after, I will electrify it, we'll see how whatever is getting my chickens likes that.
