We don't know how it happened, but it is sad.
I remember seeing a Cops episode a while back when they busted a cock fighting ring. One of the officers noticed an injured rooster in a trash can--still alive! He told the guy handling the chickens to get it out of there. They guy roughly grabbed it, gave it some anti-biotics and shoved it back into a cage. I bet that rooster was back in the trash as soon as the cops left.
