I thought the same, but You'd still have to use caution if you used a heat lamp - it could melt the tent.

No, I wouldn't try a heat lamp with it.
 
For just a few youngsters, I would think it might be helpful to use as a grow out shelter too. Something for in-between the brooder and the coop.
 
I used a greenhouse tent similar to the one pictured to house a baby tortoise. They need lots of heat. I had a very hot mercury vapor bulb and 4 ceramics heat emitter bulbs and a regular 60 watt bulb. All hanging inside the tent. No melting. Tin foil is your friend if you ever have a worry about plastic melting.
