okay well when my saxony was off the nest and out in the yard foraging her mate went in and he went over to her nest and he was sorta walking into the nest slowly and low to the ground and he was putting his bill on the eggs what was he doing ???
UPDATE! Sorry I never got around to posting pics, I could get them uploaded until now, silly phone... So all 8 ducklings are alive and thriving with the one runt hatched is a day younger so got a late start. Boy are they messy! I've had one bantam duckling before and wow, such a mess differnece between 1 duckling and 8
I've moved them from their large geuinea pig cage brooder (which they promptly trash in literally 5 minutes.) to a wooden brooder box where they have their food, heat lamp, and comfy fleece pad ( yes they are spoiled
), this that leads downward to a kitty pool where their water/dirty pit is, lol. This keeps at least one part of their brooder dry and I only need to change the newspaper for the poop! A few days ago I tosses some lonely bantam rock chicks in with the duckies who freaked for the first 5 minutes while the chicks "melted" on the fleecy pad under the heat lamp, but they all soon got along thankfully. Saves me some space!
Also question for any Saxony breeders, what traits can I be looking for in these guys? Down color? Bill and head shape? Beak and or feet color?
Anyway... PICTURES!
2 days old- before they somehow turned into filth loving gremlins
Day 4- Out in the sun figuring out that water is fun to sit AND poop in!
Almost 2 weeks old- learning how to swim, their chicken buddies are not quite sure what to do!
