This week I have decided to rehome some of the 17 baby chicks that I rescued. They have been getting along..up until the last few days. One of the larger ones has been fighting with the others...the feathers in the back of his neck fluff up..he puffs out his chest and then attacks! As much as I wanted to keep most of them and wanted to keep the largest of the bigger chicks...I can not take the chance that this little "rambo" will be mean to my older 3 ladies. So my friend who has a large working farm offered to take them. This morning I am picking out the few that will remain. I feel very guilty about sending these little ones away..after I rescued them..raised them and now..kicking them out. I just realize that having 17 growing rowdy roosters(most are roos) in my home all togther is not fair to them and they need to be at a place that will allow them to be chickens. Just crazy to think how attached my family has gotten to them...crazy!! As my hubbs says..they were given a second chance and were able to live...now it is time to allow them to live as they need to...is it always this hard when it comes time to thin out the flock? sorry just needed to vent in a place that I now eveyone would understand!

It cant be easy for you - your husband is very right...... at least you have given them a chance at a longer life than they would have had if you did not find them. On your friends farm they can crow as much as they like- scratch around and be free.

Many other people would have left those babies there. I cant help but wonder though- if they were marked- and some are pullets- maybe someone had them on the back of a truck and the box fell... I guess it is more likely they were dumped- but I cant help but wonder if there is someone out there hoping beyond hope that someone found the box of chickens when they realised they had lost them. Either way- you are wonderful for raising them- and no-one would think it bad that you cant keep them all.

Thanks for the kind words...I often wonder the same as you..where they came from and if they indeed fell off a truck. I hope that is the case..restores some faith in mankind!

I am so sorry. But how kind you were to rescue them. I know you will find them a good home where they will be happy. Yahoo for you for caring.
