Saying Goodbye

6 years ago I watched a documentary that told about chickens having personalities and I laughed. I never thought that chickens could be special. A year later I found myself with four two-day old chicks and today I had to say goodbye to the first. She was the meanest, most in charge, toughest, and most beautiful of the flock. The other three girls are bereft and so am I. I miss you Eulalee.

I'm sorry about the passing of Eulalee, the leader of her flock. It is only by getting to know them that we realize chickens are such individuals. I hope the other hens adjust okay.

Those feathery friends do become a big part of our lives, and when we lose one, it hurts a lot.
