(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I have had chickens for just under a year...what a learning experience it has been!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I currently have 8 chickens.

(3) What breeds do you have? 2 Buff Orpington, 2 Light Brahma. 2 Cochins and just added 2, day old Blue Lace Wyandotte’s.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I like all of it. I love watching them and listening to them.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Gardening

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I’m a RN. Married to a wonderful man who has built a beautiful coop for the girls and tolerated my worrying over taking care of them correctly. We have 2 Labrador retrievers and 2 Ragdoll cats. Live on a lake so are busy pretty much every minute of every day.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D I’ve known about BYC for about as long as I’ve had my chickens. I find that I use google when I have questions and often times I end up being directed to this site. Decided I might as well join the group and just start here with questions vs using google. Side note: My most recent research activity involved a broody hen and how to help her. I tried everything to get her to get off the nest but nothing worked. Long story short, I went to a local feed store and got 2 day old chicks. Brought the hen and the nest she was sitting on in to the house and rehoused her in a large dog kennel (the things we do). Once it was night and she was relaxed, I switched out the ceramic eggs she had been trying to hatch with the 2 baby chicks and I’m so happy to say that it worked! She’s so happy and taking excellent care of the babies. Now, to figure out how/when to get her and the babies back out in to the coop with the other girls. Thank goodness for this group. Lots of questions to ask.
