Got home from work today and noticed one of my Bourbon Red poults kept lifting his leg and picking at a redish-brown spot on his foot. Even other poults in the brooder took notice and started pecking at it to. I washed it in warm (Dawn dish) soapy water and put on some antibiotic ointment. The scabby area is in a spot on it's foot where I dont think I could put on a bandage on and keep it on without keeping him from walking. What is this and what should I do? Any advice would be appreciated!

How is the poult doing? Probably just a sore as you stated that has been pecked on. If it has not healed and they are still pecking on it, put some Blue Kote on it and it will clear up and they will stop pecking it.

Kuntrygirl glad you saw this. He or she (my kids call it Mr. Owie foot) is still bleeding and picking at his foot constantly. I've done everything I can think of. I've wrapped bandages around, dipped his foot in rubbing alcohol, antibiotic creams, it just wont heal!

What is blue Kote?

That is strange that it's still bleeding.

Here is a pic of what Blue Kote looks like. I'm almost sure that this will do the job. You can get this at any TSC or any local feed store. Call around to see if yours has it. It is not expensive at all. You can get it for under $10.00. It's a must have for me at my place.

Blue Kote is a quick-drying, protective wound dressing to treat ringworm, skin abrasions and surface wounds. It covers the wound with a deep, penetrating coating to promote clean, rapid healing. It works well for birds who have been pecked. Blue Kote has an unpleasant taste to help stop cannibalism. It comes in a 5oz. spray can.

Wearing gloves while using this product may be a good idea. Contents may stain your skin.

Ok Thanks!. I ordered some on amazon after I read your message yesterday. 4oz spray bottle for $10. I think its still bleeding because him and his mates pick off his bandage and all feast on his foot together. He runs when they do it to him, but there he will sit and peck and bite his own foot all day long if its not bandaged. Makes me sick to watch him do that to himself. They really are cannibals! I read that the blu-coat will make the wound taste bad. It's probably the only thing that will work at this point. Thanks again!
